Natalie Steen has a style that feels distinctly her own: bold, colorful, feminine, and always finished with an unexpected touch. She has a natural way of making Hunter Bell prints and statement silhouettes feel right at home in her wardrobe, bringing her signature sense of fun to every look. We especially love seeing her in our Mommy & Me collection with her mini. These pieces were made for moments like these!
What’s one memory you’re excited to create together this fall in your matching Hunter Bell looks?
I’m excited for the seemingly ordinary moments like the school drop-offs, family dinners, and little outings that are made all the more memorable if Nell and I are coordinating. She’s at an age (3!) where matching with me still feels very exciting and I know that window won’t last forever. I’m more than happy to indulge it while I can.
What do you hope readers feel when they visit The Nat Note?
I hope it feels a little like getting a recommendation from a friend with a very good running list. I want subscribers to discover something they didn’t know they wanted (or maybe didn’t even know existed) and leave feeling inspired and looking forward to getting dressed, decorating, traveling, gifting, or entertaining. More than anything, I want The Nat Note to feel like the one email you’re looking forward to finding in the dreaded Monday inbox.
If your readers could take away one styling lesson from you this fall, what would it be?
I think a great outfit is about finding a harmonious dance between the pieces you put together: how the individual elements talk to one another, play off each other and somehow make sense together. Admittedly, it’s not literal and there’s no real formula for it, but a good trick is to introduce something fun or unexpected like an interesting accent, an unlikely color combination, or a little tension between pieces. It’s that interplay that makes an outfit feel memorable.
What’s your favorite way to make everyday moments with your daughter feel a little more special?
The everyday moments are a fast-paced humdrum but I’ve found that taking a minute to connect with her in some small way can make both of our days feel more special. Nell already appreciates some pomp and circumstance, but it’s hardly anything elaborate: playing her favorite song on the way to school, baking something together while her brothers are at practice, turning bathtime into a bubble bath. These are the little things she squeals over in the moment and brings up again at the end of the day. What feels like such a small gesture to me can feel like an occasion to her.
Which Fall D3 look are you most excited to wear and why?
It’s less about one specific look and more about all the layering opportunities within this collection. I layered the Bini top over the Tenley dress for a little pattern play, but I love that it also completely changes the silhouette of the dress and gives both pieces a new personality. I could just as easily see myself wearing the Bini over a pussy-bow blouse or pairing it with the coordinated bottom. Those are always my favorite pieces - the ones that invite you to experiment and make them your own.
Hunter Bell is known for celebrating life’s joyful moments. What are you most looking forward to celebrating this fall?
Fall always feels like the beginning of the most celebratory stretch of the year for our family - birthdays, school traditions, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then suddenly the holidays are upon us. I relish all of it, but especially love watching my kids get excited about the moments that have become their memories. Their excitement over the things they’ve grown to expect and look forward to is probably the sweetest part of this season of life.
