The team at Hunter Bell has become huge fans of Spanish shoe brand Sveti Stefan, whom we collaborated with for a capsule collection of spring loafers. Founder Marta Abad has built a brand based on quiet luxury and is a style inspiration.
What inspired you to start your own brand of shoes?
Since I was a child, I've always had a passion for fashion and dreamed of having my own brand. I went to Milan to pursue a master's degree in marketing focused on luxury brands, where I discovered Venetian slippers and instantly fell in love with them. When I returned to Spain, I discussed the idea of starting our own brand with my sister. We envisioned creating unique shoes designed by us, using special fabrics, and introducing this type of product to the Spanish market, as it was not yet familiar to them. That's how it all began.
Where does the name Sveti Stefan come from?
Sveti Stefan is an island in Montenegro boasting a spectacular hotel. During a family trip, we fell in love with this island and wanted our brand to capture the same essence as SVETI STEFAN. The island served as a fortress during the Turkish-Venetian War in 1442 and has transformed into a grand luxury hotel frequented by celebrities worldwide.
Best piece of advice you have ever received?
"Focus on the journey, not just the destination." This advice encourages individuals to appreciate and learn from the process of achieving their goals, rather than solely fixating on the end result. It highlights the importance of personal growth, learning, and enjoyment along the way. Keep in mind that the "best" advice can vary based on individual perspectives and experiences.
Describe your personal style
"I believe my style is quite distinct from the norm. I'm not a fan of what everyone else is wearing; instead, I draw inspiration from my mother's vintage wardrobe, the modern flair of runway shows, and, above all, I gravitate towards clothing that exudes personality and individuality. I prefer a more understated look, as I believe simplicity is elegance. My posts predominantly revolve around special plans and events in my life. I take great joy in photography, and aesthetics are something I absolutely adore!"
What are your favorite Hunter Bell pieces from the new collection?
Your collection has me smitten! It's incredibly romantic and exudes a lot of elegance. If I had to pick favorites they would be these.
Can you share some of your favorite shoes from Sveti Stefan? Which pair do you always pack on holiday?
As the creator of Sveti Stefan, I can say that I love everything we create, but it's true that there are some shoes I prefer over others. I'm particularly fascinated by the Double Lace model, and I wear it throughout the year. I also adore the mules; they are very versatile and elegant, perfect for dinners or other more formal occasions. In my suitcase, you'll never find it without a pair of Svetis Double Lace, some Mary Janes, and a couple of mules.
Where or what is your favorite place or way to escape?
I love our family home in Marbella. It's a place where we're always relaxed, in good spirits, surrounded by friends and family. The beach, the scenery, it all brings me a great sense of relaxation and, above all, reminds me of happy moments in my life. It's my getaway spot, where I am the happiest!
Who is inspiring you right now? Any favorite IG follows?
For me, inspiration comes from various sources, each providing something unique. My mother has always been an immense source of inspiration in everything we create together. Her exceptional taste and innate elegance have left an indelible mark on my own sense of aesthetics.
In addition, notable women like Anna Wintour, Coco Chanel, and Vivienne Westwood have also deeply influenced my perspective on fashion. I admire Anna Wintour's innovative vision, Coco Chanel's timeless elegance, and Vivienne Westwood's creative boldness.
Each of these women, whether personally known or publicly renowned, has contributed to shaping my appreciation for fashion and my approach to creativity. On my journey, I find inspiration in the diversity of styles and voices that these women represent.
