Meet Pamela Munson
What inspired you to start your own line of accessories?
I worked in fashion for 15 years for big luxury brands like CHANEL and Oscar de le Renta, as well as retailers Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue in a buying, merchandising and sales capacity. I was on the business side of things but always craved to do something more creative. With a corporate role, you have to stay in your lane and it was more one-dimensional. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents as a child in Florida and The Bahamas and my grandmother, who was one of my earliest style icons, always wore an orchid in her hair, a bright Pucci dresses and a classic straw bag. I thought for years about doing something entrepreneurial with straw. There is something so romantic about the memories connected to straw handbags through travel, vacations and holiday with family and friends. I wanted to capture this type of refined, resort aesthetic that wasn’t wildly available in an accessible way. It wasn’t until my eldest daughter Beatrix turned one that I broke with convention, left my corporate job and launched Pamela Munson.
Best piece of advise you have ever received
If you don’t ask, you don’t get. Good things take time (be patient).
Describe your personal style.
I have fairly classic style with a feminine twist. Love bows, ruffles, a puff sleave, a great cigarette pant, well-fitting denim and a beautiful dress. My team and I are remote and I work from home so I’ve become much more casual day to day. I love Frame denim, La Ligne Sweaters, Oscar de la Renta blouses, and our new cotton shirtdresses.
What are your favorite Hunter Bell pieces?
I’m obsessed with my new animal print Colby dress! The fabric feels wonderful and it’s a great fit. I have taken it with me on my last two trips to Palm Beach; I feel perfectly put together and polished. I have also been eyeing your Teddy sweatshirt and waiting it for come back in stock in my size.
Can you share some of your favorite Pamela Munson pieces?
I love everything we create, truly. If I don’t feel good about a design, we don’t move forward with it. I’m madly in love with our new collaboration with interiors brand Schumacher. The hand-embroidered minaudieres make the perfect gift to give or receive. Especially love the Ellesmere Ribbon Floral. I am NY-based so have been loving our Munson Tote for Fall in Cognac. It’s a beautiful embossed croc tote with a rattan handle. Also, The Mimi Tote is a new design and great for everyday. I love the intricate raffia weave – it has a lace-like effect and is incredibly light.
Where or what is your favorite escape?
The beach is my favorite escape. I’m always most relaxed by the sea.
Who is inspiring you right now?
I’m always inspired by chic women and so excited for the new style book on Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Her style is as fresh and relevant today as it was in the 90s. Great taste and timeless style endure.
